It is possible to get stomach ulcers if you take antacids, a drug that helps prevent ulcers, or a combination of the two. In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Nexium as the first-line medication for treating ulcers caused by the stomach ulcer.
Nexium is an acid-suppressing medication used to treat acid reflux and other heartburn and stomach-related issues. It is available as a capsule that is swallowed whole with a pill.
Nexium works by decreasing the amount of stomach acid that's produced by the stomach.
If you are experiencing symptoms of acid reflux or heartburn, this medicine may be prescribed as a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), a medicine to treat stomach ulcers, or to help reduce the frequency of reflux.
You should also tell your doctor if you are pregnant or may become pregnant. You should also tell your doctor if you have any kidney, liver or heart disease.
Nexium should be taken by mouth, with or without food, usually once a day. Your doctor may occasionally stop taking this medicine if your symptoms worsen.
It is important to take Nexium as prescribed by your doctor. It is not clear exactly how Nexium affects the body.
You should not use this medicine if you have stomach ulcers. If you have any questions, consult your doctor.
